A man has been remanded in custody after being arrested on suspicion of ten thefts from car-wash and vacuum machines at petrol stations in Lanzarote.
The Guardia Civil says the machines were targeted at businesses in Tinajo and Playa Honda over several months. Investigators believe the suspect forced open their cash boxes and stole the money inside.
Officers began investigating after receiving reports of several similar incidents. They reviewed CCTV footage from the affected locations to establish whether the thefts were connected.
The footage helped investigators identify a suspect and link him to ten alleged break-ins at the two locations.
Following his arrest, the man appeared before a court in Arrecife, where a judge ordered that he be held in custody while the case continues.
The Guardia Civil has not released details of how much money was taken or the cost of the damage to the machines.
