AEMET are forecasting a hot and mostly sunny final weekend of August, with temperatures reaching 30°C and strong winds affecting parts of the islands today, Saturday.
Conditions will vary depending on location, with cloudier skies in northern areas contrasting with sunshine across many of the islands' main tourist resorts, particularly in the south.
Nighttime temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly at mid-altitudes and more noticeably in higher areas. Temperatures along the coasts should remain relatively stable.
Strong winds in some areas
The other significant feature of Saturday's weather will be the wind. Moderate north-easterly winds are forecast across much of the Archipelago, becoming stronger on south-eastern slopes and in exposed north-western areas.
On western coasts, conditions are expected to be calmer, with local breezes prevailing.
Although many coastal resorts should enjoy pleasant conditions, people heading into exposed areas or higher ground should be prepared for stronger winds.
Tenerife could reach 30°C
In Tenerife and the other western Canary Islands, the greatest amount of cloud is expected in north-eastern areas.
Elsewhere along the northern slopes, there will be cloudy intervals during the first part of the day before conditions become clearer around the middle of the day.
For much of the remainder of Tenerife, mostly clear or sunny skies are forecast, although some occasional cloud could develop overnight and during the afternoon.
Temperatures in Tenerife are expected to reach highs of around 30°C, making it a hot end to August for residents and holidaymakers.
Gran Canaria could see very strong gusts
Northern Gran Canaria will start and end the day with cloudy skies, with variable cloud cover expected in between.
Most other parts of the island should remain largely clear, although some cloud could appear during the morning, with temperatures reaching 28°C.
The wind could be particularly noticeable in Gran Canaria, with moderate north-easterlies becoming strong on the south-eastern and western slopes.
The south-west coast should escape the worst of the wind, where local breezes are expected to dominate.
Mostly sunny in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are expected to enjoy predominantly clear or lightly clouded skies, although there could be some cloud around coastal areas during the morning.
Minimum temperatures will see little change, while daytime highs should remain relatively stable around the coasts.
Temperatures could rise slightly inland and more noticeably at higher elevations.
Overall, the final weekend of August is beginning with hot and predominantly sunny conditions across much of the Canary Islands, particularly in southern and coastal areas, but with strong winds potentially making conditions more uncomfortable in exposed locations.
