The Canary Islands are set for another warm and mostly sunny day today, Sunday, with temperatures expected to edge higher in inland areas and some parts of the archipelago forecast to top 30°C.
According to AEMET, skies will remain largely clear across the islands, although low cloud is expected in northern areas of the higher islands during the early morning and again later in the evening.
Northeasterly winds will strengthen during the second half of the day, becoming occasionally strong in exposed northwestern and southeastern areas of the mountainous islands.
Inland Areas Heating Up
While coastal temperatures will see little change, inland and mid-altitude areas are expected to become noticeably warmer.
In parts of southern Fuerteventura and inland Gran Canaria, temperatures could locally exceed 30°C, providing a taste of the hotter conditions forecast to arrive next week.
Forecast for each of the islands on Sunday 21st June 2026:
Tenerife
Tenerife will enjoy mostly sunny conditions, particularly across the south and coastal tourist resorts. Cloudy intervals are expected in northern areas below 700 to 800 metres during the morning and evening, while the rest of the island should remain largely clear.
Strong gusts of wind may develop in the east and extreme northwest during the afternoon.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 29°C.
Gran Canaria
Northern parts of the island will start the day cloudy before sunshine becomes more widespread from midday. Higher temperatures are expected inland, particularly on west, south and east-facing slopes where local temperatures may exceed 30°C.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 26°C.
Fuerteventura
Most of the island will see sunny skies, although northern areas may experience some cloud during the early and late hours. Temperatures could rise above 30°C in parts of the southern interior.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 27°C.
Lanzarote
Northern areas will begin the day cloudy before brighter conditions develop during the afternoon. Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly clear.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 28°C.
Looking Ahead
Sunday's warmer conditions are expected to be the start of a significant rise in temperatures across the Canary Islands next week.
Several weather models continue to indicate the possibility of a heatwave affecting parts of the archipelago later in the week, with temperatures potentially climbing well above seasonal averages in some locations.
For now, visitors and residents can look forward to a classic summer day across the islands, with sunshine, warm temperatures and generally favourable conditions both on land and at sea.
