Strong winds sweeping across Lanzarote led to several incidents in the capital, Arrecife, on Friday, prompting emergency interventions by firefighters and Local Police.
The incidents come as adverse weather continues to affect parts of the Canary Islands, with organisers also forced to cancel the 2026 edition of the popular Sonidos Líquidos music festival due to 75km/h winds and weather conditions.
Bus Shelter at Risk of Collapse
The first emergency call was received at around 1:50pm on Avenida de La Marina after Policía Local de Arrecife reported the risk of a bus shelter collapsing.
When firefighters arrived, they found part of the structure had become detached, creating a potential danger for pedestrians and people using the bus stop.
Emergency crews secured the shelter using stabilising fixings to prevent further movement and guarantee public safety.
Falling Debris from Building Facade
Around half an hour later, firefighters were called to Calle Paraguay after pieces of masonry fell from the facade of a building onto the street below.
Crews carried out safety work to remove loose debris and eliminate any further risk to the public.
Local police assisted in both incidents by securing the affected areas while emergency teams carried out the operations.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during either incident.
