Night-time traffic restrictions are due to begin on the TF-1 this Sunday, 25th October, as the Tenerife Cabildo starts a six-month programme to resurface 18.6 kilometres of the motorway.
The first restrictions are expected from 10:00pm. Work will take place between kilometre 1.4, near Santa Cruz, and kilometre 20, near Arafo, passing through El Rosario and Candelaria. The project affects both directions and is scheduled from 10:00pm to 6:00am, Sunday to Thursday.
The Cabildo says the overnight timetable is intended to reduce disruption during busier periods. The motorway carries more than 70,000 vehicles a day, including traffic travelling between Santa Cruz, the Valle de Güímar and the south of Tenerife.
The works have been divided into two sections: 8.5 kilometres between Santa Cruz and El Rosario, and a further 10.1 kilometres through El Rosario, Candelaria and Arafo. The €13.86 million project includes resurfacing, new road markings and signs, improved central-reservation barriers, and work on some junction ramps.
Authorities have not yet detailed which lanes will be affected first or the specific restrictions for each night. Drivers should follow temporary signs and instructions from traffic staff, allow extra time and reduce speed through work areas.
