A 34-year-old man was rescued after falling onto the coastal rocks along Avenida Marítima in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this morning (Monday). Emergency services recovered him from the difficult-to-reach area before taking him to hospital with a moderate arm injury.
The incident happened just after 9:00am near Juan XXIII Street, when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (112) received an alert from the Port Authority reporting that a person had fallen onto the rocky sea defences.
Firefighters, a basic life support ambulance and Local Police officers were sent to the area. Fire crews reached the injured man, rescued him from the rocks and brought him to a safe place where paramedics were waiting.
After receiving treatment, the man was diagnosed with a moderate injury to his arm and was taken by ambulance to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria. His condition was not believed to be life-threatening.
Local Police assisted the emergency operation while firefighters and medical teams carried out the rescue.
