Tenerife's hugely popular Walk for Life (Carrera por la Vida) has had to change its date and will now take place on Sunday 22nd November, one week earlier than originally planned.
The change has been forced by the calling of Spain's general election for Sunday 29th November, which clashes with the original date of the annual breast cancer charity event.
Thousands of people are expected to participate once again in the walk through South Tenerife, which will start from Siam Mall and finish in the Golden Mile.
Brigitte Gypen, president of the Fundación Carrera por la Vida, confirmed the new date as organisers work to rearrange preparations for one of the island's largest annual charity events.
Organisers Forced to Rearrange Plans
Moving the event forward by a week has created significant logistical challenges.
Some participants had already booked flights to Tenerife based on the original date, while planned musical performances and other arrangements also have to be reorganised.
Despite the disruption, organisers are working to maintain the programme originally planned for the event.
The annual walk brings together cancer patients and survivors, their families and friends, businesses, organisations and thousands of supporters.
Last year's event attracted more than 7,000 participants and raised a record €132,000 through registrations and donations.
Greater Focus On Cancer Research
This year's Walk for Life will place particular emphasis on the need for greater funding and resources for cancer research.
Organisers will also continue highlighting the importance of regular medical screening and the early detection of breast cancer.
Before the main walk takes place, the Foundation will hold its annual awards gala at the Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Los Cristianos on Friday 23rd October.
The event begins at 7:00pm, with free invitations available, and will recognise people who have contributed to the growth of the Foundation's projects.
