A volleyball coach has been arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on suspicion of sexually assaulting an underage player he had previously coached.
The investigation began after the girl reported the alleged assault to the National Police. The incident is said to have taken place at the suspect’s home in December 2025.
Police said the man had coached the girl for two seasons and they therefore already knew each other. Investigators believe they later remained in contact through social media.
The suspect allegedly used the platform to give the girl his telephone number and home address. She later went to the property, where police say sexual activity allegedly took place without her consent.
Specialist officers from the National Police’s Family and Women’s Support Unit investigated the complaint. Their enquiries led to the suspect being found and arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
After police completed their initial investigation, the man was brought before the relevant judicial authority. A court will now determine what further action will be taken while the allegations are investigated.
