A one-year-old child has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Fuerteventura, in an incident which also left a 46-year-old man requiring hospital treatment.
The accident happened on Avenida de la Constitución in Puerto del Rosario, yesterday morning (Monday).
The Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert at 11:20am reporting that a vehicle had hit several people, and immediately activated medical and police resources to attend the scene.
Child suffered serious injuries
According to the initial assessment released by emergency services, the one-year-old suffered serious trauma as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel treated the child at the scene before transferring them by ambulance to Fuerteventura General Hospital.
A 46-year-old man was also injured in the same incident. He suffered several minor contusions and was taken by ambulance to the same hospital for further treatment.
No further information has currently been released regarding the condition of either patient.
Emergency teams deployed
The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) deployed a basic life-support ambulance following the alert.
A medical team from the Puerto del Rosario health centre was also mobilised and worked alongside ambulance personnel to assess and treat those involved.
Local Police officers attended the scene, where they were responsible for regulating traffic following the collision.
Officers also began the corresponding investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Authorities have not released further details about how the collision occurred.
