Tenerife has increased its facilities for motorhome users with the opening of a new dedicated area at the Las Lajas recreation area and campsite, in the municipality of Adeje, increasing the island's total number of official motorhome pitches to 31.
The new site, located within the Corona Forestal Natural Park at an altitude of 2,120 metres, has been created by the Tenerife Cabildo as part of its plans to provide more organised and sustainable camping facilities across the island.
Nine new pitches added
Work, which began in June, has transformed the existing motorhome area from just two pitches to 11 clearly marked spaces exclusively for caravans, motorhomes and campervans.
The new site is separate from the traditional camping area used by tents, helping to improve organisation while protecting the surrounding natural environment.
Cabildo President Rosa Dávila said the expansion fulfils a commitment made to Tenerife's growing motorhome community, which had called for more safe and properly equipped places to stay.
She said the aim is to provide legal, high-quality alternatives that allow people to enjoy the island's natural landscapes while helping to protect them from uncontrolled parking and camping.

The Cabildo says the project forms part of a wider strategy to encourage responsible motorhome tourism while reducing the impact of vehicles parking in protected natural areas.
More facilities planned
The Cabildo has also confirmed plans to continue expanding services for motorhome users.
Among the projects in development are the long-awaited La Tejita campsite in Granadilla de Abona, which could open later this summer once the remaining municipal approvals are in place, and a large new campsite at the site of the former Pinalito water factory in Vilaflor.
In addition, Tenerife plans to introduce a network of ecological service points where motorhome users can safely empty waste water and dispose of rubbish. These facilities will be installed at all of the island's recycling centres during opening hours, with seven additional dedicated service stations planned for locations including Las Chafiras, Granadilla, Vilaflor, Arico, Guía de Isora and Los Rodeos.
The Cabildo says the investment is designed to support the growing popularity of motorhome travel while ensuring visitors can enjoy Tenerife's natural spaces responsibly and sustainably.
