Man tasered after threatening police with an axe in Gran Canaria
Police restrained an armed man after barricading himself inside a home in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and attacking an ambulance. The incident led to a major emergency response after concerns that he posed a danger to himself and others.
Emergency services were called at around 8.30pm following reports of a man inside a property with weapons and in a distressed state. Paramedics arrived first but quickly requested police support due to the escalating risk.
Police say the man came out of the house holding an axe and hit an ambulance, damaging one of its tyres, before going back inside. Officers then entered the property and attempted to calm the situation through negotiation.
During the stand-off, the man reappeared carrying a large axe and behaving aggressively, ignoring repeated instructions to drop the weapon. Officers eventually used a taser to try to bring him under control, activating it twice as he continued to resist.
After around an hour of negotiations, the man finally complied, allowing paramedics to step in. He was taken to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Gran Canaria for medical checks.
No serious injuries were reported among emergency workers, although extra police units were called in to secure the area.
