Parts of Tenerife will be placed on rain alert from midday tomorrow, Sunday 1st November, as a storm system approaches the Canary Islands from the west.
The regional government has also declared a rain pre-alert for Gran Canaria from the same time, while they remain in force for the smaller islands of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera.
A separate pre-alert for thunderstorms began at 9.00pm tonight, Saturday 31st October, which covers La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife, as well as northern Gran Canaria.
The heaviest rain is expected in Tenerife, particularly in the metropolitan area, where rainfall could reach 30 millimetres in an hour. Significant accumulations are also possible there over a 12-hour period. Locally heavy showers may affect the other western islands and northern Gran Canaria on Sunday.
Thunderstorms could be locally intense. They are expected to affect La Palma and El Hierro first, then move east towards La Gomera, Tenerife and northern Gran Canaria on Sunday.
Residents and visitors are advised to secure doors and windows and follow official updates. Drivers should slow down in heavy rain and never attempt to cross a flooded stretch of road. Anyone facing an emergency should call 112.
