The unveiling of the official Santa Cruz Carnival poster it is a tradition that has been running for decades in Tenerife, and this year is no different, as the winner of this year’s design for 2027 has been announced, giving residents and visitors a first taste of next year’s Roman theme.
El legado de un imperio — meaning “The Legacy of an Empire” — by Tenerife artist Nareme Melián won the competition to become the celebration’s official image.
The winner was announced last night, Friday 16th October, at a live a-event in Plaza del Príncipe, where live music and dancing accompanied the unveiling.
Next year’s theme is Roma Eterna: El imperio del Carnaval, or “Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival”, bringing ancient Roman inspiration to the capital’s celebrations.
Artists third Carnival victory
Melián receives €12,000 for the winning design, and it is his third success in the competition, having previously created the official posters for the 2018 and 2023 Carnivals.

Five shortlisted designs competed for the honour, with the final result combining a judging panel’s assessment and an online public vote.
The winning artwork attracted 4,731 public votes, approximately 30% of the 15,758 cast. Voting took place through the official Carnival website between 5th and 12th October.
Juliana Serrano finished second in the public vote with 4,430 supporters, making it a closely contested choice.
The unveiling was accompanied by performances from Puerto Rican singer Tonny Tun Tun and Maquinaria Band, turning the city-centre square into an early Carnival party.
The evening provided a symbolic first dance for the 2027 edition, with the newly chosen artwork set to represent its Roman-inspired identity.
