Six people were taken to hospital after a tram derailed following a collision with a tow truck in Tenerife this morning (Monday), causing major disruption to part of the island’s tram network.
The accident happened in Taco, in the municipality of La Laguna, near the roundabout by the old Pepsi-Cola bridge. The impact was severe enough to force the tram off the tracks, prompting a large emergency response.

According to reports, the driver of the tow truck later tested positive in a roadside drug test carried out after the crash.
Firefighters, police officers, ambulance crews and motorcycle patrols were all dispatched to the incident. Emergency services worked to assist passengers, secure the area and deal with the derailed tram and damaged vehicle.
The crash caused major disruption to Tram Line 1, with services suspended between Taco and Chimisay while emergency crews and recovery teams worked to clear the damage. At the time of publication, passengers were still being advised to check Metrotenerife's official channels for the latest service updates.
