A flight travelling from Scotland to Tenerife South Airport was given priority to land after a passenger suffered a medical emergency on board.
The crew requested urgent medical assistance as the passenger’s condition suddenly worsened during the flight. Emergency services were asked to be ready to meet the aircraft as soon as it landed.
Air traffic controllers at the Canary Islands Control Centre immediately activated emergency procedures and shortened the aircraft’s normal approach route to Tenerife South.
The flight was given a more direct route towards the airport and priority over other commercial traffic in the area, helping reduce the time it took to reach the runway.
Airport operations staff and emergency services were also alerted so medical teams could be in position when the aircraft arrived.
An ambulance and medical personnel were sent to meet the plane at its allocated parking position. Once the doors were opened, paramedics boarded the aircraft to assess and stabilise the passenger.
The passenger was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Tenerife for further medical treatment. No further information about their condition has been released.
The incident comes just days after another flight from the UK required a priority landing at Tenerife South because of a medical emergency. On 3rd September, a flight arriving from Leeds was also given priority assistance.
