A second man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a jewellery shop at Centro Comercial El Mirador, the National Police Corps has confirmed. The latest suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested on Thursday evening (9th July), following further investigations by officers working on the case.
The robbery took place on Tuesday (7th July), when four masked men forced their way into the jewellery store. According to police, the group used a fire extinguisher and sledge hammers to smash several display cabinets before stealing an undisclosed quantity of jewellery.
The shop's employees managed to escape from the premises during the raid, and no injuries were reported.
Getaway car recovered
The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen from Ojos de Garza, in Gran Canaria.
Police later located the abandoned car and recovered several items believed to be linked to the robbery, including jewellery tags, a display stand, the fire extinguisher allegedly used during the raid and other evidence that investigators say is significant to the case.
The investigation is being led by the Judicial Police Unit at the South District Police Station, whose enquiries have so far resulted in the identification and arrest of two alleged suspects.
Both are being held in custody and are being investigated on suspicion of robbery with violence and intimidation, while efforts continue to identify and locate the remaining members of the group.
