Emergency services are currently attending the scene after a small training plane crashed at around 5:15pm this afternoon (Thursday) on Amarilla Golf in the south of Tenerife, after trying to make an emergency landing.
The incident happened shortly after the plane had taken off from Tenerife South Airport. According to local residents, the aircraft came down close to the main road through the Amarilla Golf urbanisation, leaving the road temporarily blocked.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise before seeing emergency services rush to the area. Police, fire engines, and ambulances are all currently on the scene.
Images and videos circulating locally show the aircraft on or near the roadside, with emergency crews working around the wreckage. At this stage, it is not yet known how many people were on board or whether there have been any injuries.
Traffic in the area is being affected while emergency teams secure the scene and begin their investigation into the cause of the crash. More information is expected to be released by the authorities later this afternoon.
The registration of the plane, EC-NME, shows that it is a Reims-Cessna F172M Skyhawk, operated by the Blue Team Flight School (also known as Blue Team Aviation), primarily based out of Tenerife South Airport (TFS).
