Drunk holidaymaker rescued as current sweeps him away in Tenerife
A German tourist was rescued after being caught in a current near the Espadarte rock pool in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
The alarm was raised at around 12:15pm on Tuesday, when the man got into difficulty in the water off San Telmo. He grabbed hold of a rock as the current carried him away from the pool.
Lifeguards reached the tourist, secured him and brought him out of the water. He had no apparent injuries and did not need medical attention.
The man was found to be intoxicated following the rescue. The swift response of the lifeguards prevented the incident from becoming more serious.
Visitors using rock pools and nearby bathing areas should watch for currents and follow lifeguards’ instructions, particularly where water flows out towards the open sea.
