The Canary Islands are set for another warm and largely sunny day today, Thursday, with temperatures continuing to rise and some areas forecast to reach 30°C, according to the State Meteorological Agency, AEMET.
Although most of the archipelago will enjoy clear skies, some cloud is expected during the early morning hours in northern areas of the more mountainous islands, with a slight chance of light drizzle, before conditions improve later in the day.
Temperatures will continue to climb, while moderate to occasionally strong north-westerly winds are expected across exposed coastal and inland areas.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote will see cloudier skies in the north and west during the morning before brighter conditions develop during the afternoon. Elsewhere, conditions will remain mostly clear.
Light calima is expected at higher altitudes, while temperatures will rise slightly, especially in eastern areas where highs could locally reach 30°C. Temperatures will generally range between 18°C at night, and 26°C during the day.
Moderate north-westerly winds will affect much of the island, with stronger gusts possible inland and along southern and eastern areas later in the day.
Fuerteventura
In Fuerteventura, cloudy intervals are expected in western areas early in the day, but sunshine will dominate elsewhere.
Light calima is also forecast at higher levels, while temperatures could climb close to 30°C in some eastern and southern parts of the island. Temperatures will generally range between 18°C at night, and 28°C during the day.
Moderate north-westerly winds will continue, with stronger gusts likely inland and around the Jandía peninsula during the afternoon and evening.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria will start the day with cloudy conditions in northern areas below around 800 metres, with a small chance of light drizzle in mid-altitude zones during the early hours.
The rest of the island should remain mostly sunny, although some cloud is possible in southern areas during the morning. Temperatures will remain steady or rise slightly throughout the day. Temperatures will generally range between 18°C at night, and 26°C during the day.
Winds will be moderate from the north before turning north-westerly later in the day, with stronger intervals expected on eastern and western slopes during the afternoon.
Tenerife
In Tenerife, cloudy skies are expected in northern areas below around 900 metres during the morning, again with a slight possibility of light drizzle before clearer conditions develop later in the day.
Most other parts of the island will remain sunny with only occasional cloud in southern areas during the morning.
Temperatures will remain stable or rise slightly in many areas, although some north-eastern coastal zones may see slightly cooler daytime highs. Temperatures will generally range between 18°C at night, and 27°C during the day.
Moderate north to north-westerly winds are expected, becoming stronger later in the day in north-western areas and along the southern side of the Anaga region, where isolated strong gusts are possible.
