The Canary Islands are facing another hot and hazy day today (Tuesday), with temperatures forecast to reach 34°C in parts of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, while calima will remain across the archipelago.
The hottest conditions are expected in the south of Lanzarote, inland and southern areas of Fuerteventura and the south-east of Gran Canaria, where temperatures could locally reach or exceed 34°C. Tenerife will also be noticeably warm, particularly across eastern and southern parts of the island, where temperatures could exceed 31°C.
Alongside the heat, calima will continue to affect the islands, with the Saharan dust expected to be most noticeable across Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Hazy conditions will also affect Gran Canaria and the western islands, particularly away from the coast.
Chance of isolated thunderstorms
The more unusual feature of today's forecast is the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see periods of medium and high cloud, with a low probability of isolated thunderstorms and occasional light rain.
Cloud is also expected to develop around Las Cañadas del Teide in Tenerife, where a few drops of rain cannot be ruled out.
Winds will generally remain light to moderate, although stronger and more variable gusts are possible around Lanzarote if thunderstorms develop.
At sea, conditions will be slightly rougher along exposed northern coasts and around western Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where waves of around one to 1.5 metres are expected.
Visitors planning beach days or outdoor activities should therefore expect a hot and hazy Tuesday, but conditions will not necessarily mean uninterrupted sunshine, particularly across the eastern islands where cloud and the possibility of isolated storms could make conditions more changeable.
