Police in Lanzarote have seized approximately four kilograms of cocaine and €25,000 in cash during an operation targeting the distribution of the drug on the island.
The National Police arrested a man suspected of drug trafficking as part of Operation Norte, an investigation carried out by the Drugs Unit of the Local Judicial Police Brigade in Arrecife.
Investigators had gathered evidence indicating that the suspect was allegedly involved in distributing significant quantities of cocaine in Lanzarote and established a surveillance operation to investigate his activities.
Officers subsequently intercepted the vehicle being driven by the suspect and discovered three packages inside containing approximately three kilograms of cocaine.
He was arrested at the scene.
More cocaine found during property searches
Following the arrest, officers obtained judicial authorisation to search two properties linked to the investigation, where Police discovered slightly more than another kilogram of cocaine during those searches, taking the total amount seized to approximately four kilograms.
They also discovered €25,000 in cash, with the majority of the money found hidden inside a freezer.
A vehicle was also seized as part of the operation.
Police said the investigation has so far resulted in the seizure of approximately four kilograms of cocaine, €25,000 in cash and the vehicle.
The arrested man was brought before the relevant judicial authority, which ordered that he be remanded in custody.
