A gang of four masked robbers carried out a smash-and-grab raid at a jewellery store inside El Mirador Shopping Centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Tuesday evening at around 9:00pm, approximately one hour before the shopping centre was due to close, before fleeing in a stolen car.
According to the first details released by the National Police, at least three of the suspects entered the jewellery shop, located on the upper floor of the centre, while a fourth is believed to have waited outside as the getaway driver.
The gang reportedly let off a fire extinguisher inside the premises to obscure visibility and make it more difficult for witnesses and security cameras to identify them.
Armed with sledgehammers, the robbers smashed display cabinets and shop windows before grabbing an unknown quantity of jewellery and fleeing the scene.

Police believe the suspects escaped in a stolen vehicle, but the amount of jewellery taken and its total value have not yet been confirmed.
A large-scale search operation involving several National Police units was launched immediately after the robbery. However, at the time of writing, none of the suspects had been arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify those responsible and recover the stolen jewellery.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the National Police.
