A woman has been arrested following a series of six thefts from tourists staying at a hotel complex in Costa Calma, in southern Fuerteventura. Police say the rooms were targeted while guests were away eating at the hotel buffet.
The investigation began after several holidaymakers reported cash, electronic devices and other personal belongings missing from their apartments.
According to the Guardia Civil, the thefts followed a similar pattern. The suspect allegedly entered apartments through terrace doors that had been left open or through windows while the occupants were away at breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Officers from the Morro Jable investigation unit linked the six cases after identifying similarities in where and how the thefts had taken place.
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the hotel complex and compared it with other information gathered during the investigation. This led officers to identify and later locate the suspected offender.
The victims reported a total of €1,470 in cash stolen, along with £150 and 700 Czech koruna.
Two computers, a tablet, two mobile phones and a Nintendo Switch were also reported missing, with the electronic devices valued at around €5,000. Other personal belongings worth approximately €430 were also taken.
Police have since recovered some of the electronic devices, although efforts are continuing to find the remaining stolen property.
It has not been confirmed whether the arrested woman was a guest, an employee at the hotel, or had any other connection to the complex. The Guardia Civil has not released further details about her identity or how she was able to access the premises.
She has been arrested on suspicion of six theft offences and has been brought before the court in Puerto del Rosario. The investigation remains open, and police have not ruled out further action.
Holidaymakers are advised to make sure terrace and balcony doors and accessible windows are securely closed when leaving their accommodation, even for short periods, and to use hotel safes for cash, passports and other valuables where available.
