Drivers on the TF-1 motorway in south Tenerife faced major disruption last night (Monday) after a car caught fire on the hard shoulder near Parque La Reina in the southbound direction towards Los Cristianos and Playa Las Americas.
The incident happened at around 8:30pm and quickly caused long tailbacks as thick black smoke billowed across the motorway, surprising motorists travelling through one of the busiest stretches of road in the south of the island.
Emergency fire crews were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze on the hard shoulder of the motorway, and secure the affected area. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The incident led to heavy congestion in the direction of Costa Adeje, particularly around Parque La Reina, an area already known for dense traffic during peak evening hours.
Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution while travelling through the area as recovery teams continue removing the vehicle and clearing the road.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
