A man is facing action from police after leaving three dogs in the back of his car while he went shopping at a retail centre in Arrecife, Lanzarote.
The incident happened at around midday yesterday (Sunday) in the former supermarket car park in Valterra, directly behind the Open Mall shopping centre.
The dogs had reportedly been left in the open boot of the car while their owner went inside the shopping centre.
Two Local Police officers attended the car park and remained beside the vehicle waiting for the owner to return.
The officers were preparing to ask shopping centre staff to make an announcement over the public address system when the man returned to the car.
Police have now started proceedings against the owner for a minor animal welfare offence.
Officers also warned him that any future incidents involving inappropriate treatment of the dogs could result in the matter being treated as a serious or very serious offence.
