Man jailed after attacking and robbing elderly woman in Lanzarote
A man has been arrested after knocking an elderly woman to the ground and assaulting her during a violent robbery in Arrecife, Lanzarote. The attack happened in broad daylight and has raised concerns over public safety in the area.
The incident took place on 10th April on a central street near the victim’s home. The attacker approached her unexpectedly and used severe force, throwing her to the ground, holding her down and hitting her before stealing a gold chain.
He also attempted to take her handbag but was unsuccessful. The victim was described as vulnerable due to her age and was left shaken by the ordeal.
Officers from the National Police were able to identify the suspect with the help of a witness and by analysing footage from local CCTV cameras. However, by the time he was identified, he had already been returned to prison days earlier after being arrested for another violent robbery committed the same weekend.
Police confirmed the man has a long criminal record, including offences involving violence and theft. Following the investigation, he was formally brought before a judge, who ordered that he remain in custody.
