The National Police have arrested a 29-year-old man after allegedly finding him carrying five different types of drugs in the Las Verónicas nightlife area of Playa de Las Américas.
The arrest was made as officers carried out crime-prevention and surveillance work in one of the busiest nightlife areas in the south of Tenerife.
Five types of drugs seized
According to police, officers became suspicious of the man's behaviour and stopped him for identification and further checks.
During the search, they allegedly discovered quantities of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, hashish and tusi, a synthetic drug commonly sold in powder form.
Officers also seized cash which they suspect was connected with the sale of drugs.
The man was arrested on suspicion of an offence against public health involving drug trafficking.
Increased attention on Las Verónicas
The arrest comes amid increased police attention on Las Verónicas and the surrounding Playa de Las Américas nightlife area.
Earlier this month, a major multi-agency police operation was carried out in the area involving checks on businesses and workers as authorities stepped up efforts to tackle crime and other illegal activity.
Business representatives subsequently called for the increased police presence to continue rather than being limited to occasional large-scale operations.
The latest arrest is a separate incident from that operation.
