A flight from Tenerife South Airport was delayed by almost three hours on Saturday after a bomb alert triggered airport security protocols just moments before take-off. The incident involved Eurowings Discover Flight 4Y307, which was due to depart for Frankfurt at 4:55pm.
According to reports, the aircraft had already left its boarding gate and was taxiing towards the runway when the bomb threat was received. Air traffic control immediately instructed the pilots to abort the departure and return the aircraft to its parking stand.
Passengers evacuated
Once back at the terminal, all passengers were asked to leave the aircraft with their hand luggage while security teams carried out a full inspection.
As part of standard procedures, all checked baggage was removed from the hold and screened using specialist scanning equipment and explosive detection dogs before the aircraft was cleared to continue its journey.
The operation forms part of AENA's established contingency plan for security threats, which is coordinated with Spain's state security forces.
False alarm
Following a thorough inspection, authorities confirmed that the bomb warning was a false alarm.
Passengers were then allowed to re-board the aircraft, which eventually departed for Frankfurt at around 7:30pm, almost three hours behind schedule.
No injuries were reported, and airport operations continued after the security procedures had been completed.
While bomb threats of this nature are rare, aviation authorities are required to treat every alert as genuine until extensive security checks have been carried out to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
