Unconfirmed reports are emerging that convicted fraudster Pamela Gwinnett has been arrested by police this morning at her home in Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife.
At the time of publication, there has been no official confirmation from either the Spanish authorities or UK law enforcement, and the reports remain unverified. Canarian Weekly is seeking confirmation from the relevant authorities and will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
Gwinnett has been the subject of controversy since fleeing the UK while on bail ahead of her trial. She was later convicted in her absence and sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of defrauding vulnerable pensioner Joan Green of almost £300,000.
The case that shocked the UK
The case centred on 89-year-old Joan Green, a retiree from Lancashire, whom Gwinnett befriended before becoming her carer during the Covid pandemic.
Prosecutors said Gwinnett gradually isolated Mrs Green from her family, gained lasting power of attorney over her finances, and systematically emptied her life savings to fund an extravagant lifestyle. According to the trial, the stolen money was spent on luxury meals, cosmetic treatments including Botox, mortgage payments and the purchase of a £22,500 car.
Judge Michael Maher described Joan Green as a "cash cow to be milked" and said Gwinnett had deliberately targeted a vulnerable elderly woman, abusing a position of trust over a sustained period. She was sentenced to six years' imprisonment in October 2025 after failing to appear at Preston Crown Court, having already fled to Tenerife in breach of her bail conditions.
Living in Tenerife
Earlier this year, Sky News tracked Gwinnett to an apartment in Los Cristianos, where she denied stealing Mrs Green's money and claimed she intended to appeal her conviction. The report also revealed that UK authorities were pursuing her extradition from Spain.
Her presence on the island attracted widespread attention, with numerous residents claiming to have seen her in Los Cristianos over recent months, although those sightings were never officially confirmed by police.

Awaiting official confirmation
Today's reports suggest police attended Gwinnett's address in Los Cristianos during the morning and detained her. However, these reports remain unconfirmed, and no official statement has yet been released by the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil, or UK authorities.
Canarian Weekly will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as soon as verified information becomes available.
