A court in Tenerife has ordered the pre-trial detention in prison of one of three men arrested in connection with the death of an 88-year-old British tourist who was fatally injured during an assault and attempted robbery in Los Cristianos.
The investigating judge at Arona Court of First Instance and Investigation No. 3 ordered the main suspect to be held in custody without bail while the investigation continues.
He is being investigated on suspicion of homicide, attempted violent robbery, and causing minor injuries to the victim's wife, who was also present during the incident.
Two Other Suspects Released
The other two people arrested by the National Police have been released under provisional conditions while investigations continue.
Both are being investigated for their alleged involvement as accomplices, or for providing necessary assistance, in the attempted violent robbery. One of the two has been ordered to report regularly to the court as part of his bail conditions.
The judicial investigation remains ongoing, and no formal charges have yet been brought.
Birthday holiday ends in Tragedy
The incident took place last Wednesday (17th June) near the Victoria Court 2 apartment complex in Los Cristianos.
According to investigators, the 88-year-old British man was visiting Tenerife to celebrate his birthday with his wife when they were allegedly approached by the suspects in an attempt to steal their belongings.
During the violent struggle, the victim suffered a heavy blow that caused him to go into cardiac arrest in the street.
Paramedics) managed to resuscitate him at the scene before he was rushed to hospital. Despite their efforts, he later died from his injuries.
The National Police investigation remains open as officers continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
