A major new parking facility for El Médano has moved a step closer after the Granadilla de Abona Town Hall officially awarded the construction contract for what will become Tenerife's first modular multi-storey car park.
Located on Calle Tenerife next to the football ground annexes, the development will provide 160 parking spaces across two levels and a walkable rooftop deck.
Over €2.9 Million Investment
The modular car park represents an investment of more than €2.92 million and will be built on a 2,155-square-metre site.
According to the Town Hall, the project is designed to ease parking pressure, improve traffic flow and make access to El Médano easier for residents, businesses and visitors.
Demand for parking in the popular seaside town has increased significantly in recent years, particularly during the summer months when visitor numbers surge.
Long-Awaited Project
The local authority says the project has been requested for many years by residents, shop owners and tourism businesses who have repeatedly highlighted parking shortages as a major issue affecting the area.
Councillor for Public Works and Services, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, described the development as an important step towards creating a more organised and efficient transport system for the town, adding that the new facility is expected to improve accessibility while supporting local economic and social activity.

Works to Begin Soon
With the contract now formally awarded, the next stage will involve completing the administrative procedures required before construction can begin.
The council says its aim is to bring the facility into operation as quickly as possible.
The project forms part of a wider municipal strategy focused on improving and modernising public infrastructure throughout the municipality of Granadilla de Abona.
For many residents and visitors, the new parking facility will be a welcome addition to El Médano, where finding a space during weekends, holidays and major events has increasingly become a challenge.
