A 39-year-old worker has been seriously injured after falling around 15 metres inside a building in Tenerife this morning (Wednesday).
The workplace accident happened in a building on Calle Juan Padrón in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. According to emergency services, the man reportedly fell from a height of approximately 15 metres onto an internal garage ramp.
He suffered a serious head injury and was treated on the ramp by medical teams before being taken to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Officials said he is currently in a stable condition.
Local Police officers were the first to arrive and secured the area while emergency crews assisted the injured man. Firefighters and paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service also attended the incident.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, police provided an escort during the ambulance transfer to the hospital to help reduce travel time.
As the incident occurred in a workplace setting, the Local Police activated the relevant workplace accident protocol. The investigation has now been taken over by the National Police homicide unit, which routinely handles serious workplace incidents involving severe injuries.
The Labour Inspectorate is also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether all required health and safety measures were in place at the time of the fall.
These procedures are standard in Spain when a serious accident occurs at work. Investigators will now establish exactly how the incident happened and whether any safety regulations were breached.
