The volcanic landscapes of Tenerife's Teide National Park could soon double as an alien world once again, after Disney+ applied for permission to film what is widely believed to be the second season of the sci-fi series Alien: Earth with Peter Dinklage, Tracey Ullman, and Jerome Flynn joining the cast.
Planning documents submitted for the production refer to the project by the working title "ALNE S2", fuelling speculation that it stands for Alien: Earth Season 2. While the paperwork does not mention the series by name, the details strongly suggest it is the next chapter of the Disney+ prequel to the iconic Alien franchise.
Teide transformed into an alien planet
According to the technical proposal, filming would take place at Minas de San José and Llano de Ucanca, two of the most striking locations within Teide National Park.
The scenes describe an expedition crossing a hostile volcanic planet, where several members of the group die before the survivors seek shelter in natural caves. The production documents also cite both Alien and Dune as visual inspirations, reinforcing the theory that the project belongs to the Alien universe.
The dramatic volcanic terrain of Teide would represent a remote, almost uninhabited world dominated by lava fields and barren landscapes.
The story focuses on a group struggling to survive as they journey across the unforgiving environment, facing deadly attacks and harsh conditions before eventually finding refuge in caves at Llano de Ucanca. The filmmakers say the aim is to create a constant sense of isolation, vulnerability and survival.
Major production planned for October
The application proposes four days of filming and two days of rehearsals between 19th and 30th October 2026, with principal photography currently scheduled to take place between 20th and 24th October.
As expected for a major international production, the plans include a large base camp, camera cranes, tracking rails, elevated platforms, generators, temporary telecommunications equipment and support vehicles.
The production has also requested temporary traffic restrictions on the TF-21 road and reserved parking areas to allow filming to proceed safely.
The set would feature a range of science-fiction props, including futuristic weapons, backpacks, water containers and sleeping bags. Artificial vegetation, wind and fog effects, green screens and a simulated campfire would also be used to recreate the alien environment.
The application states that strict environmental measures would be followed to ensure the protected national park is restored to exactly the same condition once filming is complete.
What is Alien: Earth?
Created by Noah Hawley, the award-winning writer behind Fargo, Alien: Earth is the first television series set in the Alien universe.

The series serves as a prequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 classic Alien, taking place two years before the events of the original film. It follows a group of characters battling deadly extraterrestrial organisms while confronting the powerful Weyland-Yutani Corporation, blending science fiction, horror and survival in the style that made the franchise famous.
Following the launch of the first season, Disney and FX officially confirmed that the series had been renewed for a second season, making Tenerife's iconic volcanic landscape a likely setting for its next adventure if filming permission is granted.
