Temperatures are set to climb across the Canary Islands today as warmer weather returns to the archipelago accompanied by calima, particularly over the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
According to AEMET's forecast for today, Monday 20th September, the highest temperatures are expected in Fuerteventura, where values could locally reach 34°C in southern inland areas.
In Gran Canaria, temperatures could reach around 32°C across southern, south-eastern and western areas, while inland and southern parts of Lanzarote are expected to reach between 30°C and 32°C.
Tenerife will also become warmer, with the temperature increase expected to be more noticeable across inland areas than along the coast.
Calima will be present at altitude over the eastern islands, while lighter suspended dust is also possible over Tenerife.
Skies across the archipelago will generally feature periods of medium and high cloud. Lower cloud is expected across northern and eastern parts of the higher islands during the first half of the day.
Winds will generally remain light to moderate from the north-east, with sea breezes developing around some coastal areas during the morning.
The change marks the beginning of another warmer spell following the cooler and cloudier conditions experienced across parts of the islands during the weekend.
AEMET's observations show that Tenerife South Airport reached 28.9°C on Sunday, while Lanzarote Airport, La Graciosa and Antigua in Fuerteventura recorded 27.9°C.
Temperatures are expected to remain high during the coming days, making sun protection and adequate hydration particularly important for anyone spending extended periods outdoors.
