Adeje Town Hall has renewed its commitment to Fundación Canaria Carrera por la Vida (Walk for Life), awarding the breast cancer charity a €27,000 grant to help continue its support, awareness and research programmes across the municipality.
The funding, approved as part of the council's 2026 budget, will ensure the charity can continue providing vital services to people affected by breast cancer and their families, while also supporting some of its best-known fundraising events.
Councillor for Health, Esther Rivero Vargas, said the grant would help fund the organisation of Walk for Life, Swim for Life and Yoga for Life, three annual events that attract thousands of participants and raise both awareness and money for breast cancer support and research.
She said the Town Hall remains committed to backing an organisation that has become a cornerstone of cancer support in southern Tenerife, complementing healthcare services through emotional support, specialist resources, healthy living initiatives and campaigns promoting early diagnosis.
Supporting patients across Tenerife
Part of the funding will also help maintain the Foundation's headquarters in Adeje, where staff coordinate year-round support, guidance and specialist services for patients and their families.
The charity's work extends well beyond fundraising. Its programmes include providing therapeutic bras for women who have undergone mastectomies, compression sleeves for lymphoedema patients, specially designed post-operative recovery bags, and funding for nipple and areola micropigmentation following breast reconstruction surgery.
It also assists with transport for medical appointments and contributes to a number of breast cancer research projects.
18 years of community support
Having worked in Adeje for the past 18 years, Walk for Life has become one of the leading charitable organisations in the south of Tenerife, bringing together residents, businesses, community groups and public institutions to support people living with breast cancer while helping to advance scientific research.
Councillor Rivero Vargas said the continued partnership demonstrates Adeje's commitment to improving public health, supporting local charities and investing in projects that make a real difference to the wellbeing of residents and their families.
