A man aged around 30 has died after his car overturned and caught fire on the LZ-2 in Lanzarote while travelling towards the airport.
The accident happened just after 12.00am on yesterday (Monday) on the LZ-2 near Tías, just past the local petrol stations.
The vehicle reportedly rolled several times, throwing the driver from the car before it caught fire. He went into cardiac arrest immediately.
Paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, but were unable to save his life and confirmed his death.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, while two basic life-support ambulances were sent to the roadside alongside the Local Police, the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection and volunteer firefighters.
Police officers controlled traffic around the crash site and prepared an official report as investigations into the circumstances of the accident began.
The fatal crash comes amid a series of serious road accidents across the Canary Islands since Sunday. In Tenerife, emergency services have also responded to a two-car collision on the TF-1 in Candelaria that left one person critically injured, a quad bike crash in Vilaflor, and vehicle rollovers in Granadilla de Abona as well as in Lanzarote. There have also been motorcycle accidents in Adeje and several incidents involving pedestrians and cyclists.
