One man has died, and another has been left seriously injured after both were hit by a vehicle in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura, last night (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called out just before 10:30pm after reports of a serious collision involving two pedestrians. The incident resulted in the death of one man, believed to be in his 60s, while a second man of a similar age suffered severe head injuries.
The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (112) immediately sent emergency resources, including ground units and a medical helicopter, due to the seriousness of the incident.
When paramedics arrived, they confirmed that one of the victims had died on the roadside. The second man was treated and stabilised before being taken by advanced life support ambulance to the helipad in Morro Jable.
He was then airlifted by the Canary Islands Emergency Service helicopter to the University Hospital Insular of Gran Canaria, where he remains under specialist medical care.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been confirmed, and an investigation is expected to establish exactly how the incident occurred.
