Tenerife will enjoy its first-ever direct air links with Canada this winter after Air Canada officially unveiled new routes connecting Tenerife South Airport with Toronto and Montreal.
The airline will begin operating the services in October, offering four weekly flights throughout the winter season – two to Toronto and two to Montreal.
The new routes will not only make it easier for Canadian visitors to reach the island but will also provide convenient onward connections to destinations across North America, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America through Air Canada's extensive network.
Boosting Tenerife's North American Market
The new services were officially presented by Tenerife's Vice President and Councillor for Tourism, Lope Afonso, who described the new connections as a major milestone in Tenerife's strategy to diversify its tourism markets and strengthen its presence in North America.
Air Canada highlighted that these flights will be the only direct air connection between Tenerife and North America, made possible by the introduction of its new Airbus A321XLR, which seats 182 passengers, including 14 Business Class seats and 168 Economy seats, and features the airline's latest long-haul cabin design.
The airline said the routes will benefit not only holidaymakers but also residents, businesses, students and families with connections on both sides of the Atlantic.
Visitor Numbers Continue to Rise
The announcement follows significant growth in visitors from North America in recent years.
According to figures released during the launch, Tenerife welcomed 51,174 passengers from Canada and the United States in 2025, more than double the number recorded in 2019.
Of those travellers, 44,044 arrived from the United States, while 7,130 came from Canada. The most popular departure cities included New York, Miami, Boston, Washington, Chicago and San Francisco in the US, along with Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver in Canada.
Between January and May 2026, Tenerife's airports had already handled 22,168 passengers from the two countries, including 17,430 from the United States and 4,738 from Canada.
