Man stabbed in neck outside supermarket in Gran Canaria
A 43-year-old man is in a very serious condition after being stabbed in the neck outside a supermarket in Agaete, in the north-west of Gran Canaria. The attack happened yesterday evening (Wednesday) in the Puerto de las Nieves area, a popular spot for both residents and visitors.
The incident took place at around 8:00pm following an argument in a small square near Agaete beach. Early reports suggest the victim was involved in a dispute with several people and was said to be acting in an agitated manner.
During the confrontation, one of those present allegedly attacked the man from behind and stabbed him in the neck. The victim, who is known locally, suffered life-threatening injuries and collapsed immediately.
Emergency crews from the Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived along with Local Police and Guardia Civil officers. Paramedics stabilised the man before transferring him in a critical condition to Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas. His current condition has not been confirmed.
Witnesses reported seeing the attacker try to escape, and he has not yet been found. The motive remains unclear, and officers are investigating whether the stabbing was linked solely to the argument or to an earlier dispute.
The Guardia Civil has launched a search operation to find and arrest the suspect.
