A woman aged around 60 has died after suffering a cardiac arrest while hiking near Femés in southern Lanzarote.
Emergency services were called to a trail close to the village at around 4:00pm yesterday (Tuesday). Another person was already performing CPR when paramedics reached the area.
Medical teams continued resuscitation attempts with help from firefighters and Local Police officers. A rescue helicopter crew then reached the remote location and evacuated the woman to a nearby landing point.
Despite the efforts of everyone involved, paramedics from an advanced life-support ambulance confirmed her death.
Local Police, the Guardia Civil, firefighters, a rescue helicopter and two ambulances took part in the emergency response and are now completing the relevant official procedures.
The incident follows another helicopter rescue involving a hiker in Lanzarote earlier this year. In March, a 65-year-old woman was airlifted from Caldera Blanca after suffering a fall in a difficult-to-reach area and was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
