Þó að enn eigi eftir að telja öll atkvæði og endanleg úrslit liggi ekki fyrir þá er ljóst að Demókratar hafa náð meirihluta í báðum deildum Bandaríkjaþings. Þegar þetta er ritað hafa Demókratar tryggt sér 228 þingsæti í fulltrúadeildinni og Repúblikanar 139. 218 þingmenn þarf til að ná meirihluta.
Í öldungadeildinni hafa Demókratar tryggt sér 54 sæti og Repúblikanar 44, en niðurstöður liggja ekki fyrir þegar kemur að tveimur þingsætum. Í öldungadeildinni þarf 51 þingmann til að vera með meirihluta.

Johnson, sem hefur gegnt embætti forseta fulltrúadeildar Bandaríkjaþings frá árinu 2023, segir að Demókratar megi reikna með harðri mótspyrnu í fulltrúadeildinni á komandi misserum. „Ný barátta hefst núna,“ skrifar Johnson á X.
Johnson segir að meirihluti Demókrata í fulltrúadeildinni verði undir forystu einhverra róttækustu vinstrisinnuðustu stjórnmálamanna í sögu Bandaríkjanna. Hann segist jafnframt staðráðinn í að halda áfram baráttunni fyrir stefnumiðum flokksins undir slagorðinu „Make America Great Again“.

We are so grateful for your support, and I will never stop fighting for our community, state, or nation. Over the past two years, House Republicans have worked alongside President Donald Trump to deliver massive wins for the American people, including secured borders, permanently lower taxes, and safer streets. We left it all on the field in this midterm to continue building on those accomplishments.
