Some of Europe's leading triathletes are heading to Tenerife this weekend as Santa Cruz hosts the European Triathlon Cup. The international competition forms part of a packed programme of racing taking place in the island's capital over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The headline elite races take place on Sunday, 11th October, bringing together international competitors for a sprint-distance challenge through Santa Cruz.
The women's elite race is scheduled to begin at 11:30am, followed by the men's event at 1:30pm.
SWIMMING, CYCLING AND RUNNING THROUGH THE CITY
Competitors will tackle the sprint-distance format, beginning with a 750-metre swim, followed by a 20-kilometre cycle and finishing with a five-kilometre run.
The event brings European-level triathlon competition back to Tenerife and provides spectators with an opportunity to see elite athletes competing on the island.
Sunday's European Cup races are the centrepiece of a wider weekend programme.

FULL WEEKEND OF TRIATHLON EVENTS
Competition begins on Saturday with events including regional championships and paratriathlon.
There will also be opportunities for amateur athletes to participate, broadening the weekend beyond the professional and elite categories.
The event adds another major sporting fixture to Tenerife's calendar and provides a positive boost for the capital over the long weekend.
With Monday 12th October marking Spain's National Day, increased numbers of residents and visitors are expected to be travelling and attending events across the islands.
