Temperatures could reach 30°C in parts of the Canary Islands today, Sunday 25th October, with sunny spells, passing cloud and a return of calima, mainly in higher areas.
The warmest conditions will favour southern and western parts of several islands, although the increase will vary considerably between coastal resorts, northern districts and higher ground.
Early low cloud will linger in some northern areas before brighter breaks develop. Elsewhere, middle and high cloud will pass overhead, with dust in the atmosphere giving some views a hazier appearance.
North-easterly trade winds will remain noticeable, with locally very strong gusts possible in exposed locations during the morning.
Sea Conditions:
Waves could exceed two metres on exposed northern coasts and the western shores of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Some southern waters will also be choppy, so follow beach flags and lifeguard instructions before swimming.
Island-by-island forecast for Sunday 25th October:
TENERIFE
Tenerife will begin with low cloud in parts of the north-east and north-west, beneath a broader layer of middle and high cloud. Brighter spells should develop as the day progresses, although an isolated light shower cannot be ruled out.
Temperatures will rise most noticeably on southern and south-western slopes, where local highs could reach around 30°C. The north-east will see much less change. For visitors around Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes, the outlook is warmer, with sunshine through passing cloud.
Calima will be more apparent on higher southern slopes and around the mountains. North-easterly winds could produce very strong gusts in the far north-west and south-east, particularly early on, while some western coastal locations will have more shelter.
GRAN CANARIA
Northern Gran Canaria will have low cloud at first, with clearer breaks developing later. The rest of the island will see sunshine mixed with middle and high cloud, rather than completely clear skies throughout the day.
Temperatures could exceed 30°C locally in the south and west, with the increase also noticeable in some areas above the coast. Southern resorts such as Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico have a warmer outlook than cloudier northern districts.
Dust will be concentrated mainly around higher ground, especially on southern slopes. Exposed north-western and south-eastern locations could experience strong or occasionally very strong gusts, so conditions will feel different between sheltered terraces and open coastal stretches.
LANZAROTE
Lanzarote will have sunny spells between areas of middle and high cloud, with calima present at altitude. The sky may therefore look hazy even when the sun is shining.
Local temperatures could reach around 30°C in the south, although this will not represent conditions everywhere on the island. Plans around Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise should allow for differences in cloud and exposure to the breeze.
The north-easterly wind will be moderate, becoming strong at times inland. Sheltered locations will offer more comfortable conditions for sitting outdoors than open beaches and exposed viewpoints.
FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura will also see a combination of sunny intervals, middle and high cloud, and dust in the upper atmosphere. The forecast offers opportunities for outdoor plans, with some haze affecting distant views.
The warmest conditions are expected in western areas, where temperatures could locally reach 30°C or slightly higher. Other parts of the island will be less hot, so this should not be taken as a forecast for every resort.
North-easterly winds will remain moderate and become stronger in exposed western locations. Anyone choosing a beach around Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste, Costa Calma or Morro Jable should check local wind and swimming conditions.
